“We started the contest as a way to introduce ourselves to our community and to bring the community together ,” explains Karen Ayersman, Executive Director, Residences at Deer Creek.  She continued, “It turned out to be such a great success, we have carried the tradition for nine years! It’s one of the most popular events we have, for the community and also for our residents and staff who look forward to watching the scarecrows emerge from the display set-up.”

She noted they have fun voting for their favorites as well. “We have a board in the lobby with all of the photos of the displays so staff and residents who don’t care to venture outdoors can participate in voting. “

“We have several teams who have participated multiple years,” says Marcia Zeller, Director of Marketing and Sales for Residences at Deer Creek.  Included in this list are Cub Scouts, Prairie Pioneer 4-H, Schererville Parks Little Tykes, Traditions Health, and Triune Home Health. “It’s a great way to start the Fall season,” she added.

Natalie Reisen, Director of Marketing and Sales for Residences at Coffee Creek totally agrees– “Residents, families, and locals who visit the Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve enjoy looking at the displays and getting into the Fall spirit.”

The contest serves as a team-building event and is open to businesses, schools, other non-profit and youth organizations.  “It’s a great way to extend support to our community”  emphasizes  Ayersman.

We’re already looking forward to making the 10th Anniversary of Residences Senior Living’s Annual Scarecrow Contest even more special!”
