Residences Senior Living Now Extending Covid-19 Vaccines to Families of Residents and Staff

Residences Senior Living announces another “first” in the provision of Covid-19 vaccines in their two communities. The two communities involved are Residences at Deer Creek, Schererville, and Residences at Coffee Creek, Chesterton, IN.  “We are proud and thrilled to extend the opportunity to schedule appointments for Covid-19 vaccines to families of our residents and staff beginning next week,” said Karen Ayresman, Executive Director of Residences at Deer Creek in Schererville, IN.

She explained “As a result of our partnership with our pharmacy provider, In Touch Pharmaceuticals, the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccine will be offered to those  age 18 and older.”  The two-dose vaccine had been administered to residents and staff during the three vaccine clinics conducted at each community beginning as early as January 18.  Residences Senior Living was the first senior living provider in the area to offer the vaccine to its residents and staff.  In Touch will also make available the Johnson and Johnson single dose vaccine for those age 18 and above who choose it.

Kaitlynn Redmon, Executive Director of Residences at Coffee Creek, said that according to In Touch pharmacists that both mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) are equally effective. “In Touch emphasizes that ‘the best vaccine is the one you get’ and we are so much further ahead of where we were without vaccines. We have been able to restore visits with families in residents’ apartments, get-togethers for lunches such as our Easter BBQ, and residents are enjoying outings with their families and community trips again,” Redmon explained.

Both Directors are also quick to emphasize the need for caution and that attention to disease prevention remains a daily priority at their facilities.  “Social distancing is still a must, but it is so good to see residents once again in our open restaurant dining areas chatting with one another even though they sit at separate tables,” they agreed.  “Hugs are back in a big way with residents and their families, and it’s lifted the spirits of all of us.”

Staff and residents still wear masks, enhanced daily cleaning is on-going, and the co-operation of everyone including families has been phenomenal and key to the safety and well-being of residents and our dedicated staff,” they noted. “ We are vigilant, we take care of each other, and we have taken advantage of the vaccine to ensure the most optimal outcomes during this pandemic.  Thanks to our partner for health, In Touch Pharmaceuticals, as we engage more families and make it possible for them to obtain a vaccine, once again, hope is renewed!
