Residences Senior Living: 5th Annual Scarecrow Contest

Residences at Deer Creek hosted the 5th Annual Scarecrow Contest, a creative challenge open to residents, schools, non-profit/community organizations, churches, clubs and businesses. Participants were challenged with creating a scarecrow display in a 10-by-10-foot area along the drive on the north side of the property. Public voting was open from October 24-31 and voters were able to cast a vote for their favorite scarecrow once each day.

Ten total participants from the community this year included local businesses, school clubs, cub scouts and even the local parks department. Some of the scarecrows were whimsical and cute, such as the Schererville Parks and Recreation Little Tyke Preschool display, which featured a   colorful box of smiling crayons. Other scarecrow displays were scary; the Cub Scouts Pack 504 Den #2 featured a haunted graveyard. Hammer Financial Group’s display featured a bikini-clad scarecrow holding a cocktail near a sign that read “Retirement is Good.”

Contest Winners

The 1st place winning scarecrow display was awarded to Schererville Parks and Recreation Little Tykes Preschool, along with $500 prize money. Second place was awarded to Clark High School Art Club, along with $250 prize money. The third-place runner-up was the Adventure Club in Schererville.
