DC Hideaway a New Nightclub in Town

Our Resident Life Enrichment Committee meets on a regular basis to come up with fun and new ideas for outings and onsite events. Most recently the group decided to transform our bistro into a throwback night club! The committee had a brain storming session to come up with the name of the club – DC Hideway (DC for “Deer Creek”).

The key features of DC Hideaway most important to the residents were the setting, music, and cocktails. The lights were dimmed in the bistro, candlelit center pieces and white linen covered the tables, and the bistro was transformed into a wet bar. Life enrichment and office staff dressed as cocktail waitresses and bartenders from the time period, including headpieces, dresses and pearls for the ladies, and vests, hats, and suspenders for the gentlemen.

A week prior to the event, residents could think of their song requests and submit them for our DJ. Many people chose songs from the 1930s and 1940s, while others chose more modern songs.

The special cocktail menu featured resident favorites: cosmopolitans, dirty martinis, manhattans, and cinnamon moonshine. Residents had the choice of beer and wine, and other mixed drinks made to order. Many residents ordered cocktails and others enjoyed nonalcoholic beverages, and everyone enjoyed snacks at each table while listening to the entertainment and shouting out answers to trivia questions for prizes.

The consensus in the Resident Life Enrichment Committee is that DC Hideaway will be an ongoing quarterly party – often enough to enjoy and look forward to, but long enough in between each party for it to be a special occasion.
